Repeal SB 5

COLUMBUS - Tomorrow We Are Ohio will begin airing “Sacrifice” the campaign’s third television ad. The new ad will air in all major media markets and on cable starting on Wednesday, September 21, 2011.
“Public employees all across the state have made considerable financial sacrifices to help Ohio and their local communities save money and balance budgets,” said Melissa Fazekas, spokeswoman for We Are Ohio. “At the same time these hardworking Ohioans were making these sacrifices, politicians in Columbus were handing out millions of dollars in tax breaks to their corporate campaign contributors. It is not only wrong, but unfair to blame firefighters, teachers, nurses and police officers for the budget mess they didn’t cause. The truth is, the same politicians who support Issue 2, also cut vital local funding for the people we trust the most, the people who watch our backs. Ohioans look forward to voting NO on Issue 2 to repeal SB 5, because it goes too far and is out of touch with Ohio values.”
Examples of Sacrifice:
• State employees gave back $350 million in wage freezes, furlough days and healthcare costs.
• School employees such as cafeteria workers, school bus drivers and custodians in the Salem City School District have not had a pay increase in 8 years.
• Employees at the Lawrence County Jobs and Family Services office gave up wages to help keep their colleagues on the job. They also supply their own restroom supplies (toilet paper) for the employees and visitors to the office to help save money from the county budget.
We Are Ohio is a citizen-driven, community-based, bipartisan coalition that has come together to repeal SB 5 by voting NO on Issue 2, the unfair and unsafe law that will hurt us all. We Are Ohio includes public and private sector workers and employees, police officers, firefighters, teachers, nurses, pastors, small business owners, Republicans and Democrats, local elected officials and business leaders, students, Moms, Dads, family members, and your neighbors.
